| Walnut
Creek, CA--January 19, 1998 -- Teradyne, Inc.
today announced an order for its high-accuracy, DSP-based
analog measurement system called PRISM-ZTM (Precision
Integrated Signal Measurement) from 3COM, a leading
designer and supplier of network interfaces. 3COM ordered
30 PRISM-Z upgrades for the Z1890 circuit board test
systems currently installed in their Morton Grove, IL
facility. All upgrade packages were delivered and installed
in Q4 1997.
The 30 Z1890 test systems installed at 3COM's IL facility
are used for testing complex boards found in analog
modems. Randy Bird, 3COM's In-Circuit Test Manager,
said, "In our high volume production environment,
we're constantly looking for ways to save time on our
testing stage. With the PRISM-Z modules, we achieve
an increase in throughput and accuracy in testing small
value capacitors. The modules allow us to reduce test
times by over 40% and increase the measuring accuracy
of our components. As a result, we've been able to increase
our manufacturing capacity."
Joe Wrinn, General Manager at Teradyne's Assembly Test
Division in Walnut Creek, CA, said, "We are pleased
to be working with the world leader in networking technology.
We will continue to support 3COM's product and technology
portfolio as they grow into the 21st century."
The PRISM-Z analog module delivers state-of-the-art
precision, throughput, stability, and measurement flexibility
for all Z1800-Series test systems. The PRISM-Z module
features industry-leading precision for analog in-circuit
and functional test. The PRISM-Z provides greater range
and accuracy, especially for small capacitors, small
and large inductors, and RC combinations. Throughput
and repeatability are greatly enhanced with the PRISM-Z.
The PRISM-Z offers better stability across a wider range
of operating temperatures and improved transportability
of programs between systems.
