| ANAHEIM,
CA -- September 23, 1997 -- Teradyne, Inc. announced
today that its M910 VXI Digital Test Instrument has
been selected by ManTech Systems Engineering Corporation
for the United States Marine Corps' TETS (Third Echelon
Test Set) program. Designed to provide portable test
capabilities on the forward edge of a battlefield area,
the TETS test system consists of two compact, ruggedized
chassis that can be mounted on the back of a High Mobility
Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, better known as a "humvee."
The announcement was made at the IEEE's Autotestcon
conference held here Sept. 23-25.
Designed to provide portable test capabilities on the
forward edge of the battlefield area, TETS units can
be deployed on the tailgate of a humvee. The TETS system
consists of two compact, ruggedized chassis.
ManTech has placed an initial order for 12 M910 instruments
for the Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) phase of
the program. Another 287 instruments may be ordered
over the next five years, according to Bob Feingold,
vice president of Teradyne's Assembly Test Boston division.
The M910s will be shipped to ManTech's headquarters
in Chantilly, Virginia, for integration into TETS systems.
The estimated value of the contract for ManTech is $85
million. The value of the LRIP order for Teradyne is
roughly $1 million. Orders for additional M910 instruments
will follow as production begins.
"This is major win for Teradyne and for the M910,"
said Feingold. "With the M910, we've taken the
next logical step in the 15-year evolution of our digital
test architecture by making it available in a PC-based
Windows NT environment and by packaging it in a C-size
format, ready for integration into larger test systems.
At the same time, we've achieved a new benchmark in
price and performance, so that we can offer the M910's
high-performance capabilities at about the same price
point as less capable instruments. We are looking forward
to working with ManTech over the next five years to
deliver our part of the TETS program, which is supplying
the Marine Corps with the highest-performance digital
test capabilities available in a VXI C-size format."
According to Pete Faulkner, director of engineering
and TETS program manager at ManTech, Teradyne won its
bid to be ManTech's digital test partner with a combination
of technical excellence and organizational strength.
"The M910 was perhaps the most significant resource
in our TETS architecture," said Faulkner. "It
not only met the TETS program requirements, but exceeded
them in many key areas. Beyond meeting the technical
requirements, Teradyne has the organizational resources
to support a 20-year commitment to the TETS program.
We faced an extremely aggressive schedule, from initial
proposal though bid sample to final award. To be successful,
we needed a partner like Teradyne, who was as committed
to winning this business as we were. We also valued
the wide acceptance of Teradyne's digital test capabilities
by DoD suppliers. Teradyne technology is considered
the de facto standard for digital test."
The M910 is a high-performance C-size VXI instrument
for advanced digital and mixed-signal test. Configurable
with up to 704 bidirectional, variable-voltage test
channels in a single 13-slot C-size chassis, the M910
offers a modern, scaleable digital architecture for
testing microcontroller, microprocessor, and DSP-based
boards. With an industry-standard VXIplug&play Windows
NT framework software driver and hardware that is fully
compliant with VXI-C interface standards, the M910 is
easily integrated in VXI-based test systems and specialized
test equipment (STE) for large defense and avionics
programs such as TETS, JSTARS (U.S. Air Force), and
IATS-II (Taiwan Air Force).
