| WESTFORD,
MA -- Jan. 11, 2002 -- Teradyne Inc. [NYSE: TER]
today announced that its industry-leading Design-to-Build
[D2B] software solutions -- GR Force/A3™ and GR
Force/Strategist™ -- are now available on all
of its circuit board test and inspection platforms.
The deployment represents a major technology threshold
reached only six weeks after the GenRad merger into
Teradyne.
"Our Design-to-Build software solutions are the
flagship products of our test and inspection product
line. They are the clear leaders in the test and inspection
areas of the electronics design and integration market,"
said John Casey, president of Teradyne's Assembly Test
Division.
"We believe that broadening the scope of these
software products represents a major advance in our
ability to help our customers improve their manufacturing
performance and productivity," Casey said. "As
a result of the Teradyne-GenRad union, significant new
benefits in test and inspection solutions are now available
to help our customers accelerate product introductions,
decrease times-to-market and enhance bottom line profitability."
Originally developed by GenRad prior to its merger
with Teradyne, GR Force/A3 and GR Force/Strategist software
solutions are modular, interconnected and accelerate
the free flow of product information throughout the
D2B and manufacturing process.
Fully functional regardless of test and inspection
equipment manufacturer, these leading edge software
solutions free electronics manufacturers from the constraints
that have traditionally limited functionality and --
ultimately -- profitability characteristic of restrictive
proprietary systems.
These new D2B software products deliver this value
by leveraging the strengths of an open software architecture.
For the first time, electronics manufacturers -- no
matter which vendor's equipment they are using -- can
determine optimal test and inspection strategies quickly
and accurately.
The variety of test and inspection tools available
to surface mount technology manufacturers continues
to grow and now includes x-ray and optical inspection
in addition to traditional in-circuit and functional
test.
"Test strategies are driven by numerous factors
such as technology, process and volume, making it difficult
to arrive at maximum test and inspection effectiveness
and productivity," said John Wood, head of ATD's
Enabling Technologies group. "Conventional 'seat-of-the-pants'
test and inspection test scenarios have been inefficient
at best and usually lead to insufficient inspection
and test coverage. GR Force/Strategist is the first
comprehensive tool using fault spectrum and production
data to recommend an optimum test and inspection strategy
no matter what equipment is used."
"We have clearly raised the performance bar with
this extraordinary D2B suite of software tools,"
Wood said. "As with our additional solutions within
the Teradyne D2B software suite, GR Force/A3 and GR
Force/Strategist unquestionably fulfill the performance
and productivity requirements manufacturers throughout
the world have told us they want."
About Teradyne's GR Force/D2B™
Teradyne's D2B software solutions are MS Windows™-based
solutions, employing an open architecture, enabling
contract and original equipment manufacturers with the
ability to integrate competitive test and inspection
platforms smoothly and eliminate needless data manipulation.
This significantly reduces manufacturing times and labor-related
production costs.
Teradyne will debut the Design-to-Build software at
the APEX trade show in San Diego, CA., USA, in mid-January.
Teradyne's complete D2B software is currently available
on all GenRad's board test platforms. Rollout onto Teradyne's
test and inspection platforms begins in January 2002.
Completion of this integration is planned during Q2,
2002.
Pricing
GR Force/A3 provides full design data preparation
and test program generation and depending upon the final
configuration retails between $7,000 - $15,000 for the
first software license.
GR Force/Strategist determines optimal printed circuit
assembly test and inspection strategies and depending
upon the final configuration retails between $15,000
- $30,000 for the first software license.
