DIEGO, CA -- January 22, 2002 -- Teradyne [NYSE:
TER] today introduced four new products designed to
help electronics manufacturers improve their competitive
positions by optimizing supply chain execution, improving
product quality, and reducing test costs. The product
introductions were made at APEX, the annual IPC-sponsored
tradeshow for electronics manufacturers. APEX attendees
were the first to view the new products offered by the
company's expanded Assembly Test Division, which resulted
from the merger of Teradyne and GenRad.
Optical Inspection for Full Range of Component, Solder
and Assembly Faults
The Optima™ 7300-EP post-solder inspection system
is the newest member of the Optima automatic optical
inspection (AOI) family. The 7300-EP system is used
at both the post-reflow and post-wave solder steps,
to inspect PCBAs (Printed Circuit Board Assemblies)
for the full range of component, solder and assembly
faults. Using five independent cameras and structured
light, the system collects defect images from multiple
vantage points on the fly to rapidly isolate and detect
defects other systems cannot.
Programs developed on the Optima 7300-EP are transportable
to the other members of the Optima 7300 family. The
new system features an improved fiducial illumination
system, a new operator interlock system, higher inspection
rates and a new staged conveyor combined to deliver
faster PCBA cycle times. The new system is designed
for very high-volume manufacturers who have extreme
manufacturing cycle requirements, delivering PCB inspection
rates of 7 square inches per second while providing
100% coverage for solder and component defects.
Supply Chain Process Optimization
GR Force/SCE™ Performance Management cartridge
software provides a platform for business process measurement,
problem resolution and continuous improvement. It provides
immediate multi-dimensional visibility into manufacturing
business processes via dashboards that monitor key performance
indicators and measure actual business performance against
plan. Supply chain event management capabilities enable
alerts to be triggered when business process thresholds
are exceeded while the integrated workflow engine ensures
business process deviations are driven to resolution.
Teradyne Collaborates on Unique Cellular Mobile Test
Solution
GR Versa™ In-Process Cell Phone Test is a unique
functional test platform developed in cooperation with
a world leader in mobile communications to test a new
range of cellular mobile products. The new platform
combines Teradyne's production test system and software
expertise with IFR Systems' expertise in RF instrumentation
and cellular radio test. The resulting platform provides
a flexible and modular platform to address both current
and future wireless products.
The platform is specifically designed and configured
to address the manufacturing test requirements for 2G,
2.5G, and eventually 3G cellular mobile products. Teradyne's
method of performing a "protocol-independent"
test allows the platform to adapt to changing cellular
technologies with minimal efforts and virtually no additional
hardware, reducing test costs and assuring the highest
quality standards.
