| WESTFORD,
MA -- May 13, 2002 -- Teradyne's [NYSE: TER]
Assembly Test Division, a global leader in electronics
testing and production solutions announced today the
implementation of its industry leading Teradyne SCE™
supply chain software by Hitachi Computer Products (America),
Inc., a subsidiary of Hitachi America, Ltd. Teradyne
SCE software is a manufacturing execution system used
to reduce costs and accelerate products to market by
optimizing collaborative manufacturing across a distributed,
international, multi-company supply chain.
Teradyne SCE was implemented by Hitachi Computer Products
(America) to provide the rigorous level of quality management
required to support ISO 9002 certification and achieve
the business profitability and growth goals associated
with the introduction of several new products into production.
"We are very pleased with the support provided
by Teradyne in implementing the SCE solution,"
said Larry Harvey, plant quality manager at Hitachi
Computer Products (America). "It was up and running
with minimal disruption to our production operations."
Teradyne SCE enables Hitachi Computer Products (America)
to automatically correlate in-process quality information
with work-in-progress and product genealogy data, improving
collaboration between all groups in the supply chain
and accelerating the new product introduction process
for the company's configuration-to-order (CTO) manufacturing
operations.
"The applications of the SCE solution are far-reaching,"
continued Harvey, "we originally implemented it
as an inward facing solution for process improvement
- which it performs very well, but once we got it up
and running we found it actually provides even greater
value as an outward facing solution to improve customer
responsiveness. "
"Teradyne SCE enables discrete manufacturers to
meet their business objective of minimizing inventory
and improving customer satisfaction by providing real-time
shop floor information to manufacturers and their partners
via the Internet," said Ron Lindell, manager of
Teradyne's supply chain execution software group. "Teradyne
SCE also increases manufacturing throughput by identifying
production bottlenecks in real-time. It decreases time
to market by electronically managing the implementation
of engineering changes, an operation that is essential
for manufacturers of highly-engineered products."
About Teradyne SCE
The latest version of Teradyne's industry-leading
collaborative manufacturing execution system, Teradyne
SCE 2.1, contains many new features designed to make
manufacturers in the high-tech, automotive and aerospace
industries much more productive and efficient. For example,
tightly integrated statistical process control (SPC)
chart display and supply chain event alarming functionality
means that data is collected once in Teradyne SCE and
then used many times - eliminating separate data collection
points for each application. Process lot and panelization
support means that users can start and complete multiple
shop floor control numbers with a single bar code read.
Single screen non-conformance functionality provides
quicker and more accurate non-conformance data entry
and tracking non-across multiple levels of assemblies
and sub-assemblies.
Java 2 Enterprise Edition architecture
Teradyne SCE™ easily integrates with other factory
and corporate information systems by using industry
standard XML interfaces and provides the lowest total
cost of ownership through a 100% browser based thin-client
and a high performance Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE)
application server, providing unparalleled modularity,
performance, and scalability.
Teradyne's highly skilled manufacturing consultants
ensure the quickest time-to-benefit for our clients
manufacturing supply chain execution projects.
