Teradyne Design-To-Build (D2B) Software Now Available On Optima™ Automated Optical Inspection Platforms

WESTFORD, Mass.--June 10, 2002--Teradyne's (NYSE: TER) Assembly Test Division, a global leader in electronics testing and production solutions, announced today its industry-leading Design-to-Build (D2B) software now supports the Optima™ automated optical inspection (AOI) platforms.

Teradyne D2B software is a unique, modular environment that streamlines the free flow of product information throughout the design-to-manufacturing progression, eliminating unnecessary data transfer and manipulation to reduce costs and accelerate time to market. It is the most comprehensive and effective PCBA development tool in the industry, fully capable of supporting mixed vendor and mixed application test and inspection platforms such as automated optical inspection, automated X-Ray inspection, and in-circuit test.

"Teradyne's automated X-Ray inspection and in-circuit test solution customers have been enjoying the competitive advantageous of accelerated product introductions, decreased time-to-market and enhanced bottom line profitability for quite some time now," said John Wood, manager of the enabling technologies group. "We are very excited to be able to provide the same time and cost savings to our Optima 7200 and Optima 7300 AOI customers."

About Teradyne's Design-to-Build software: Teradyne's D2B software solutions are MS Windows™-based solutions and utilize an open architecture, enabling contract and original equipment manufacturers with the ability to integrate competitive test and inspection platforms smoothly, eliminating needless data manipulation which results in significantly reducing manufacturing times and labor-related production and development costs.

D2B Software modules GR Force / A3™ provides the ability to acquire data from more than 30 different CAD design formats and generate programs for a wide variety of test and inspection equipment. A3 facilitates design-for-test (DFT) analysis early in the design cycle, before the cost of change becomes prohibitive.

GR Force / Strategist™ analyzes the design of each printed circuit assembly, models the production line configuration, and then determines the optimum strategy for the programming of the test and inspection equipment. Strategist provides customers the capability to develop multiple strategies that identify and maximize fault coverage and inspection efficiencies.

GR Force DesignView™ allows users to import board schematic information in labeled HPGL format. The graphical viewer can then simultaneously update both schematic and physical information whenever the user selects a component or signal, enabling the simple browsing of complex design data.

D2B Framework allows the user to modify design data and manage parts libraries. The data editor allows the common management of all part numbers, making it easy to implement engineering changes and manage new product introductions.

D2B GenCAM Viewer allows the user to view GenCAM v1.5 design data files in an intuitive, graphical manner. It also provides the ability to read GenCAD and GR Alchemist III™ files. The enhanced D2B viewer is available as a free download from Teradyne's website - www.teradyne.com

This release of D2B also provides support for MVP's optical inspection system and JET's Manufacturing Defect Analyzers.
