| BHUNTSVILLE,
AL -- October 11, 2002 -- Teradyne's [NYSE: TER]
Assembly Test Division (ATD), a global leader in electronics
testing and production solutions, today announced the
introduction of the Bi4-Series™ of serial bus
test instruments (BTI), the first "synthetic"
instrument capable of assuming a wide range of serial
bus protocols required in military and aerospace test
environments. Teradyne will introduce the Bi4-Series™
of serial bus test instruments to the public at the
AUTOTESTCON conference focused on automated test and
related technology for military, government and aerospace
applications in Huntsville, AL on October 14, 2002.
The Bi4-Series BTI possesses built-in "morph-ability,"
to assume the bus protocol language of serial communications
buses used in operational or factory environments. Because
it is able to both emulate and test serial buses, it
eliminates the need for a broad range of individual,
protocol-specific test instruments, providing a convenient
solution that reduces the overall cost of test, and
simplifies the logistics involved in setup and deployment
of multiple test systems.
"The BTI provides our customers in the military
and aerospace markets with an extremely flexible and
convenient solution for bus testing and emulation at
all levels of test," said Stephen Fairbanks, marketing
manager of ATD's Mil/Aero business unit. "This
type of product innovation will significantly help in
our customers drive to reduce test costs."
About the Bi4-Series BTI
Teradyne's Bi4-Series is the industry's first instrument
designed specifically to address the unique requirements
for real-time bus test and emulation at functional test.
Each BTI has 4 independent bus modules that support
MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1773, TIA/EIA-RS-232, TIA/EIA-RS-422,
TIA/EIA-RS-485, H009, ARINC 429, and more. There is
no need for external electronics, custom circuitry,
or compromises of any kind. With an innovative load-and-forget
programming environment, native support for popular
buses, and the flexibility to emulate custom buses or
variations of standard buses, each of the four bus modules
provides the option to emulate a wide variety of serial
bus communications and test those protocols, at any
time.
