-- December 2, 2002 -- Teradyne's [NYSE: TER]
Assembly Test Division, a global leader in electronics
testing and production solutions, today announced the
release and immediate availability of Teradyne SCE™
3.0, the industry's leading collaborative manufacturing
execution software. Teradyne SCE™ 3.0 breaks down
the barriers between suppliers, manufacturers, and customers,
providing greater manufacturing control through process
visibility and product traceability.
The new version of Teradyne SCE features a significantly
enhanced capability to link global OEMs and EMS providers,
to accelerate new products to market and reduce manufacturing
costs. It provides complete shop-floor visibility and
traceability throughout the entire manufacturing process,
and is flexible enough to effectively address the requirements
of individual unit-level production control required
to support today’s complex, highly engineered
products in high-tech, aerospace and defense, and automotive
industries.
The principal upgrades included in Teradyne SCE 3.0
include:
- Flexible Demand Fulfillment (FDF)– maintains
complete product genealogy as products are built across
multiple plants, and allows effortless transfers of
production from one site to another, to cost effectively
meet demand, and speed new product ramp-to-volume.
- Build-To-Order (BTO)/Configure-to-Order (CTO) manufacturing
mode support - enables mass customization and lean
manufacturing initiatives to reduce inventory and
respond to changing market needs.
- Visual Router –creates graphical workflow
of complex assembly, inspection and test process steps,
greatly reducing the time and effort to introduce
new products into manufacturing.
- Operational Data Store (ODS) - provides a single,
real-time view of global key performance indicators
(KPI’s), significantly improving decision-making
speed and ability.
- Labor tracking – electronic time cards provide
consistent and accurate collection and processing
of time and attendance information.
- Defects Per Million Opportunities (DPMO) reporting
- reduces process variation to achieve consistently
high quality levels.
“Today’s collaborative manufacturing systems
must provide real-time visibility and business process
control across distributed manufacturing facilities,
share real-time production data with major suppliers
and business partners, and provide customers with real-time
manufacturing information visibility as needed,”
said Greg Gorbach, Director of Collaborative Manufacturing
Research at the ARC Advisory Group. “In addition
to these crucial functions, it is imperative that they
provide for centrally managed manufacturing processes
that may be distributed among physically remote plants.
The new release of Teradyne SCE significantly increases
its capabilities to address the needs of manufacturers
managing multiple production facilities and operating
in a complex value network.”
“Teradyne SCE 3.0 provides manufacturers with
the capability to substantially improve the efficiency
of critical manufacturing execution and enterprise quality
processes, reducing cost of goods sold and improving
profitability,” said Carl McCauley, operations
manager of Teradyne’s manufacturing software group.
“Manufacturers adopting SCE will gain significant
competitive advantages by being able to meet requirements
that their customers are demanding in today’s
market. In addition, because new product introduction
is the lifeblood of any manufacturing company, Teradyne
SCE enables manufacturers to quickly transfer products
from design into volume manufacturing anywhere in the
world, ensuring industry and government regulatory compliance
and high product quality.”
