MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April
26, 2004--Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE:TER) announced
that Delta TechOps, a division of Delta Air Lines, has
selected Teradyne's Next Generation Automated Test System
(NxGen ATS) to support Delta's fleet of Boeing aircraft.
In addition, Delta TechOps will use the NxGen(TM) ATS
to service and maintain the Boeing aircraft owned by
their MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul) customers.
Teradyne made the announcement at the Avionics Maintenance
Conference held here April 26-29.
Delta TechOps is the launch customer for the NxGen
ATS, which Boeing developed based on Teradyne's Spectrum(TM)
9000-Series functional test system. Boeing has licensed
Teradyne to manufacture and market the NxGen ATS to
commercial airlines and MROs for maintenance and repair
of Boeing commercial avionics.
Together, Delta, Boeing, and Teradyne have teamed up
to roll-out the NxGen ATS to the industry, demonstrating
the vital role that NxGen will play in commercial avionics
from the factory to the field," said Carl Rosenblatt,
Teradyne business unit manager. "Not only is Teradyne
a technology leader in the dynamic ATE industry, but
it also provides a world-wide support infrastructure
that ensures that the needs of Boeing customers will
be met around the world."
As part of the agreement with Delta, Teradyne will
supply NxGen ATS hardware, training, and support, and
Boeing will deliver component maintenance manual (CMM)-sanctioned,
FAA-certified test programs. Teradyne will support Delta
in the integration of the NxGen ATS into its operations,
leading to the retirement of the ATS-182 test system
and providing Delta with an industry-leading test capability
for its MRO operations.
"As Delta implements NxGen within our operations,
we are looking forward to the cost savings of having
a single test platform," said Larry Hieber, manager
- TechOps Avionics. "NxGen ATS will provide a much-needed
replacement for older test systems such as the ATS-182.
This will help reduce overall airplane maintenance costs
by cutting down the number of automatic test systems
we buy and support."
Leslie Lauer, director of Retrofit Engineering in Boeing,
Commercial Aviation Services, added, "Our work
with Teradyne gives airlines and MROs a test solution
that will support their needs today and long into the
future. The NxGen test system provides an innovative
and flexible test solution to minimize risk and reduce
testing costs."
About NxGen ATS

the system allows customers to tailor the test system
to their needs and to host both Boeing and non-Boeing

them to concentrate on their core competencies.
