SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 21, 2004--Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE:TER) today
introduced and demonstrated a new portable maintenance test system, the
GDS-3100(TM), at the IEEE's Autotestcon Systems Readiness Technology Conference
held here at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
The Teradyne(R) GDS-3100 is a next-generation, fully integrated diagnostic tablet tester that delivers maintenance information and diagnostic routines directly into the hands of the maintainer. The GDS-3100 is a proven COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) solution, which represents the result of more than nine years of commercial experience in providing man-portable maintenance aides in applications where effective diagnostics are critical to the success of a system. It provides high-density communications and flexible test capability for Operational-Level maintainers who need communications capability, Built-In Test (BIT) automation, and general-purpose test capabilities for system-level maintenance activities.
Steve Fairbanks, Teradyne product manager, said: "The GDS-3100 is unique compared to other portable maintenance solutions because it provides at-system maintainers the tools that cover their diagnostic and electronic maintenance requirements in an integrated package under software control." According to Fairbanks, the GDS-3100 has several key advantages over other solutions:
- It reduces platform logistic requirements for maintenance and spares while minimizing the escalation of logistic support maintenance equipment.
- It enhances efficiency in training and IETM (Integrated Electronic Technical Manual) development.
- It provides flexibility in multiple maintenance applications.
Designed as a one-per-maintainer tool, the GDS-3100 supports a wide range of maintenance applications, including fault diagnostics, data recording, IETM display utilities, and traditional diagnostic debugging tools. The GDS-3100 provides wireless interaction and standards-based PC support, making it a convenient field-deployable diagnostic solution.
The GDS-3100 has the unique capability to provide integrated bus communications along with analog measurement capability, thus aiding the platform maintainer in performing diagnostics more efficiently. The Teradyne GDS-3100 provides a means to directly interface the tablet with system-level BIT and major subsystems of the platform-under-test, providing access to and control of a wide range of onboard electronic systems.
The GDS-3100's internal architecture uses open standard interfaces such as Ethernet and USB and supports both the latest radio frequency technology and cabled options. This architecture delivers complete communications bus access without the need to reconfigure the support system for each application.
Communication Gateway - Multiple Protocol Support Provides Flexibility
The GDS-3100 is designed to integrate with Teradyne's GNA-600-series(TM) communications gateway products. The GNA-610(TM) gateway is a compact, rugged, and mobile interface that provides the communication link between all of the major diagnostic and bus protocols on modern platforms to the GDS-3100 diagnostic and maintenance system. The GNA-610 communication module can be directly connected to the GDS-3100 tablet, or can be connected through a wireless link. The GNA-610 provides two PCMCIA sockets to enable the user to add additional functionality from a range of supported devices such as WLAN (802.11), Bluetooth, GSM, and FLASH disk devices.
Modular Instrumentation Bay Provides Powerful Measurement Capabilities
The GDS-3100 is fitted with Teradyne's Modular Instrumentation Bay, a sophisticated analog source and measurement system. This advanced measurement architecture features a unique platform power reference scheme, which enables convenient single-probe measurements and allows resistance measurements in live circuits.
The instrumentation includes a digital multi-meter, frequency counter, oscilloscope, and sensor simulation functions, and provides the following measurement capabilities:
- DMM providing auto-ranging resistance and bipolar voltage
- 2 channel, 1M samples/sec oscilloscope (storage) with triggers
- Pulse width/frequency measurement.
In addition to providing voltage, current, and resistance measurements, the Modular Instrument Bay supports multiple probe types, including probes with additional signal conditioning, multiplexing, and local intelligence for measurements such as current, pressure, and temperature.
GRADE-X(TM) Software - Extensible Standards-Based Authoring and Runtime Environment
The GDS-3100 software framework, GRADE-X(TM), is based on open standards such as Java and XML, creating a flexible delivery mechanism for a variety of maintenance and logistics services. The use of open standards and web-based interfaces provides an unparalleled flexibility in integrating with third-party applications to create an enterprise-wide logistics management solution. Teradyne's third-generation IETM authoring and runtime environment is an intuitive-windows based user interface that presents the diagnostics information in an organized manner, enabling the maintainer to navigate easily and focus on information relevant to the problem. The GRADE-X Authoring architecture is component-based, allowing for development and re-use of diagnostic tests, and its drag-and-drop programming simplifies IETM development.
