| Westford,
MA -- June 30, 1999 -- Today, GenRad, Inc. (NYSE:GEN)
announced the release of the newest version of CIMBridge
Process Optimization software. CIMBridge 3.6 includes
many new features and product enhancements to enable electronics
manufacturers to program and optimize best-in-class, heterogeneous
surface mount (SMT) assembly equipment.
New Features
CIMBridge 3.6 offers user-defined scripting that enables
users to customize CIMBridge process steps, eliminating
the time spent in the management of "home-grown"
programs and creation of custom macros. The new scripting
feature allows the user to add or modify data throughout
the line programming process to customize the software
to meet the specific needs of their manufacturing process.
CIMBridge 3.6 offers optimizers for Universal’s
GSM 1 and GSM 2 SMT equipment. CIMBridge’s GSM
Optimizers have shown results of 5 to 10% increases
in machine throughput in high-volume, low-mix production
and decreases in feeder setup time in high-mix, low-volume
manufacturing environments. CIMBridge’s GSM Optimizers
provide support for equipment such as RAMTF, PTF and
both fixed and multi-track feeders.
CIMBridge 3.6 offers an optional Fuji CCIMF Machine
Program Generator (MPG) for the Fuji IP, CP, NP and
QP series of modular SMT equipment. CIMBridge’s
Fuji CCIMF MPG enables the user to program Fuji equipment
through the FujiCAM operator’s kit without the
expense of an additional programmer’s kit, by
providing translation to the CCIMF file format and sending
it directly to the Fuji equipment.
Enhancements
CIMBridge 3.6’s panel feature now supports "mirrored
panels". The mirrored panel capability uses identical
machine programs and setups to build both the top side
and bottom side of a panel. Board images on the panel
are mirrored geometrically via the software to save
the user time and money in line optimization and programming
for placement, glue/paste deposition, and inspection
equipment.
CIMBridge 3.6 includes enhancements to the engineering
change analyzer (ECA) feature. The ECA feature now utilizes
a Windows based graphical user interface to allow the
user to compare the differences between manufacturing
data files and/or component parts list files.
CIMBridge 3.6 includes enhancements to the GenCad verification
feature, which validates GenCad file contents, regardless
of their origin, to ensure accurate and appropriate
content before use by the CIMBridge software. The GenCad
verification feature also allows CAD vendors to validate
their GenCad output to current standards.
Availability
CIMBridge 3.6 will begin shipping in August 1999.
