GENRAD’S PXISCAN SWITCHING SYSTEM BRINGS ATE FEATURES TO LOW-COST FUNCTIONAL TEST

Westford, MA -- July 28, 1999 -- Today GenRad, Inc. (NYSE:GEN) introduced the PXIscan™ signal switching system for GenRad’s GPX621 chassis, initially introduced in April. Based on PXI™ /CompactPCI standards and GenRad’s patented 3-D switching technology, the PXIscan open-system architecture provides integrated functional test and measurement switching capabilities for digital, analog and mixed-signal test requirements.

Switching options for the PXIscan system provide the ability to stimulate and measure signals in most portions of the operating spectrum of a unit under test (UUT). The PXIscan hardware and point and click software provide an integral solution for interconnection and routing signals between the UUT and various PXI, CompactPCI and GPIB instruments by linking any resource to any test point. The PXIscan interconnection system allows the user to manage and minimize cabling efforts for increased reliability and easier serviceability.

The PXIscan Resource Controller, core of the switching architecture, provides ATE features in a low-cost functional test solution. Features include fixture ID and fixture/receiver engagement monitoring, external probe support for diagnostics in debug and test, basic voltage measurement and stimulus, and general purpose I/O relay drivers for greater test integrity.

The PXIscan system backplane provides two different types of signal routing busses: an 8 channel daisy-chained 100 MHz high frequency analog bus and an 8 channel tapped, general-purpose analog bus. A variety of switching options are available to accommodate combinations of high current, high frequency and/or high channel count testing requirements.

Availability and Additional Information

The PXIscan signal switching system will be available in September of 1999. Further product, feature and pricing information can be obtained by calling Bob Stasonis at 978-589-7544 or visiting our website at http://www.genrad.com.
