Automotive Diagnostic Industry Leaders Announce Testing Solutions Compact

WESTFORD, MA -- September 25, 2000 -- Stockholm, Sweden -- September 25, 2000 -- Autodiagnos AB and Cartec GmbH today announced their commitment of cooperation to bring innovative AU-III gas testing solutions to the German market. Autodiagnos AB, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, is a wholly owned subsidiary of GenRad, Inc. [NYSE: GEN], which earlier this year acquired the innovator in automotive diagnostic systems.

The GenRad-Cartec agreement brings together the best of the two companies' expertise: diagnostics from Autodiagnos and gas analysis from Cartec.

Cartec will use serial communication gateways from Autodiagnos, and its parent company GenRad, when upgrading its current user base of AU-II analyzers to meet the AU-III standard. The diagnostic expertise of Autodiagnos will also be used by Cartec for developing future generations of gas analyzers.

Customers may also choose the Multi-Tester pro diagnostic tool from Autodiagnos as the interface between the vehicle and the gas analyzer. Multi-Tester pro is a multi-purpose diagnostic tool that can be easily configured to perform a wide-range of diagnostic and troubleshooting functions.
