IFR and GenRad Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Cooperate on Engineering and Marketing of New Wireless Manufacturing Test Systems

WICHITA, Kan. -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- February 26, 2001 -- IFR Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:IFRS) and GenRad (NYSE:GEN) today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) outlining their intent to cooperate on developing and marketing manufacturing test systems for wireless handsets.

The MoU outlines cooperation between the two companies for engineering and marketing, as well as information sharing towards the continued development of production test platforms for cellular handset manufacturing. IFR will supply GenRad with radio test sets, RF digitizers and signal sources for integration into GenRad's current and future product lines.

GenRad's GR Versa(TM) low cost functional test platform is being used as the foundation for this system. Initially configured for end-of-line testing, the GR Versa platform has been configured to test GSM handsets and is a complete test system that includes GenRad's Versa's 21-slot PXI 6U rack, PXIscan(TM) signal switching/routing, audio instrumentation, test fixturing, personal computer and display, all integrated with IFR's 2935 GSM radio test set. Future developments will incorporate IFR signal generators and RF digitizer products to provide customized "in-process" test solutions for advanced wireless test.

"Our agreement with IFR will help GenRad provide our customers with the very best RF capabilities in many areas of manufacturing," said Jim Ficaro, vice president of functional solutions at GenRad, Inc. "We have already shown a working system at several key exhibitions and we see strong interest in the GR Versa cell phone solution. It combines GenRad's ATE expertise with IFR's wireless test expertise."

"We are excited about the opportunities that working with GenRad will bring for IFR worldwide. Our focus on creating new and better solutions for testing wireless products will definitely be advanced with IFR and GenRad's new ATE solutions," said Jeff Bloomer, chief executive officer, IFR Systems, Inc.
