| MUNICH,
GERMANY À- November 6, 2001 -- –Two
Great Names Become One!” is the achievement proclaimed
at Productronica by Teradyne, Inc., [NYSE: TER] and GenRad,
which last week joined forces to become the global leader
in test and inspection technologies for the electronics
manufacturing industry.
The two US companies -- with a combined heritage of
125 years -- bring to the worldwide market a complete
range of manufacturing inspection and test solutions
addressing the entire electronics product life cycle,
from prototype through end-of-life.
"Our combined hardware, software, service and
support capabilities clearly establish us as the global
leader in scope, scale and functionality," said
Robert M. Dutkowsky, president of the merged unit called
the Assembly Test Division of Teradyne.
"These two great companies bring together unparalleled
leadership in our respective areas." Dutkowsky
said. "By merging Teradyne and GenRad, we've established
the new global standard for the singular ability to
improve our customersê time-to-market, time-to-volume
and time-to-profitability. Under no other banner can
an electronics manufacturer gain the productivity and
performance we deliver with our electrical, optical
and software solutions. We're the one!"
Dutkowsky was named president of the new Assembly Test
Division by Teradyne Chairman and CEO George W. Chamillard.
Previously, Dutkowsky was chairman, president and CEO
of GenRad. The unit focuses on electronic manufacturers
in the contract, original equipment, military-aerospace
and public-sector markets.
Showcasing the unified line of products only one week
following completion of the merger, Productronica is
the new unit's public debut, "and we couldn't be
prouder of the clearly unified, integrated presence
we have here in Munich, and around the world,"
Dutkowsky said.
Teradyne Assembly Test Division is exhibiting its electrical
test and software solutions at Stand 419 in Hall A1,
and its imaging inspection and manufacturing software
solutions at Stand 255 in Hall A1. Featured new products
include the GR VersaOTÈ optical transmission
tester, the GR X-Station 3DÈ in-line automated
3D X-Ray inspection system, and the Optima 7200È
post-placement automated optical inspection system.
Also being shown on both stands are the AlchemistÈ
integrated development environment and the StrategistÈ
software for optimizing a distributed test environment.
Dutkowsky stated that Teradyne plans to introduce new
products and services within the next 90 days, and will
unveil its strategic product roadmap early in 2002.
–We already have a defined process to integrate
the GenRad and Teradyne platforms into the industryês
strongest, broadest product line," Dutkowsky said.
In the near term, all of Teradyneês platforms
are being integrated via the powerful and intuitive
common development environment called AlchemistÈ,
and the best-in-class software tool to optimize distributed
inspection and test named StrategistÈ. These
tools operate together in the framework of Teradyneês
global supply-chain execution [SCE] software.
Over time, technology from both organizations will
be reused in new inspection and test products and platforms
focused on offering new technologies at lower prices
that reduce the customerês cycle times.
The merged entity has the largest installed base of
customers and the broadest product line of any test
and inspection company.
In addition to 24-by-7-by-365 worldwide support and
service, installed base systems will receive full parts
and service support for at least five years following
the end of regular production of that system. As platforms
evolve to meet future test and inspection requirements,
the company will have a well-defined migration path
that preserves some or all of the existing investment
in applications, fixtures, programs and expertise.
