The purpose of this letter is to communicate recent product decisions that have been made concerning Teradyne's VIPER electrical inspection system. We want to thank you for being among the manufacturers that selected the VIPER product and we hope it has been one of your most valuable test and measurement tools.

On October 1st 2002, the VIPER product was officially discontinued. This decision was part of our ongoing efforts to consolidate our in-circuit test products and to provide superior support and services to our customers.

We also want to remind you that Teradyne is continuing to honor 5 year hardware support policy concerning discontinued products and that Teradyne's Assembly Test Division is committed to supporting your Viper hardware service and parts needs through October 1st, 2007.

In order to show our thanks for your business, we are offering free upgrades to the final version of the Viper Test Generation Software, Viper 3.0. Along with this upgrade we are offering a license key that will enable the following features at no charge:

Junctions Xpress
Power On
User Defined Techniques
Opens Xpress
Frequency
Viper Runtime
Tracs
Tracer Techniques

In addition to these improved features, we are offering new Panel Test Generation method which will enable users to easily create test plans to support panelized modules.

Please note that because the Viper product was discontinued in October of 2002, Teradyne has no plans to provide future updates or enhancements to this product. Viper Version 3.0 patch 6 is the last supported software release for this product and it is offered here, "as-is" and free-of-charge, for customers still using their Viper test equipment. It can only be installed and run on PCs running the Windows NT Operating System.

Teradyne's Service organization will continue to use "reasonable effort" to provide software support and service requests for Viper PC Hardware. But our customers should also realize that Windows NT and the PC's that run it, are currently obsolete, and both PC parts and service will be increasingly difficult to obtain.

We would like to also take this opportunity to remind our users that we will be continuing to offer a Viper/Force D2B license bundle. This fully supported suite of tools enable users to use Force/D2B Cad Preparation Software to develop Viper test plans, starting with the outputs from most cad layout packages, through probe placement all the way to Viper Test Generation.
