About Teradyne - Overview

Teradyne's business is the creative application of systems technology to practical problems in the design, production, and servicing of electronics. Founded in 1960, Teradyne has a long history of technical innovation.

Today Teradyne is a diversified company, with 2000 sales of more than $3 billion and more than 10,000 employees worldwide. Teradyne is the world's largest supplier of automatic test equipment (ATE) for the electronics and telecommunications industries. Our products are used to test semiconductors, circuit assemblies, telephone lines, networks, computerized telephone systems, and software. Teradyne also manufactures backplane assemblies and high-density connectors used in high-performance electronic systems.

Teradyne is a leader in each of the markets it serves. In semiconductor testing, Teradyne is the only broad-line supplier of test equipment for system-on-a-chip (SOC), analog, mixed-signal, memory, and VLSI devices. We are one of the top three board test suppliers, with products that cover the broadest range of price/performance in the industry. The company is the world's largest merchant supplier of telephone line test systems and one of the top two suppliers of backplane connection systems.  Recent investments in emerging technologies for computer telephony, network, Internet and software testing extend our expertise into new markets with unlimited growth potential.

Our customers include the world's top electronics companies. Our products test the latest semiconductors and circuit boards that power today's electronics products--from PCs to cell phones to car electronics. Our backplane assemblies and interconnect systems are used by leading data storage companies and in complex military and avionics applications. We also test more than 100 million phone lines worldwide, helping phone companies target problems and fix them quickly.  Much of the company's business is now being driven by the Internet.

Teradyne's headquarters are in Boston, Massachusetts. Our primary manufacturing facilities in the United States are located in Agoura Hills, CA; Boston, MA; Nashua, NH; Milpitas, CA; North Reading, MA; and Walnut Creek, CA. We also have manufacturing sites in Dublin, Ireland and Kumamoto, Japan.

We sell and support our products worldwide, primarily through direct sales, service, and applications engineering organizations located at 50 regional centers throughout Asia, Europe, Japan, and the United States. 52% of Teradyne's 2000 sales were exports from the U.S. to international customers.

Teradyne's sales have doubled in the past five years thanks to a stellar product portfolio and booming growth in the Internet, electronics and telecommunications industries. Credit also goes to Total Quality Management (TQM), an initiative Teradyne's founder Alex d'Arbeloff began driving in 1990 to focus the company on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

Teradyne became a publicly-held company in 1970. Its stock (symbol TER) has been listed on the NYSE since 1979, and recently was placed on the S&P 500. For more information about Teradyne, you may read our Annual Report, look at Teradyne Facts, or contact:
