Teradyne Places in '10 BEST' Suppliers for VLSI Research 2004 Survey

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 14, 2004--Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE:TER) was recognized as a "10 BEST Supplier" in two segments of the VLSI Research 2004 customer satisfaction survey based on scoring by semiconductor equipment users worldwide. Teradyne earned "10 BEST" awards for "Test & Material Handling Equipment" and for "Large Suppliers of Chip Making Equipment." This marks 16 consecutive years that Teradyne has been recognized on the "10 BEST" list.

VLSI Research Inc of Santa Clara, California surveys customers to determine how they value their equipment and their relationship with their suppliers, with responses from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Rest of Asia, Europe and the U.S. The annual Customer Satisfaction Survey on Chip Making Equipment is the only publicly available opportunity for chip manufacturers to provide feedback on their suppliers. The "10 BEST" rankings award special recognition to the suppliers that are rated highest by end-users.

Teradyne received high scores for Quality of Results (a category Customers felt was the strongest trait for the "10 BEST" suppliers), Usable Throughput, Product Performance, Technical Leadership, Support After Sales, and Uptime, as rated by ATE users worldwide.

"VLSI Research has been conducting customer satisfaction surveys since 1988," said Dan Hutcheson, CEO and President of VLSI Research. "Teradyne holds a rather esteemed position of placing in our "10 BEST" since its inception. The data speaks for itself. ATE users depend upon Teradyne, and the company consistently delivers resulting in high marks from its customers."

For this year's survey, respondents returned surveys rating 4,981 equipment models and 220 different suppliers. Of these, 56 companies received the minimum survey counts to qualify for the "10 BEST" by market segment competitions. The companies that responded to VLSI Research's customer satisfaction survey represented 96% of worldwide chip production in 2003. When calculating each of the thirteen separate categories previously mentioned, total responses comprised about 61,800 individual ratings across the categories, each on a scale of 1 through 10.
