UTAC Tests Next-Generation Broadband Devices with New Turbo AC Instrument from Teradyne

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2004--Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE:TER) announced that United Test and Assembly Center Ltd ("UTAC", SGX:UTAC), a leading provider of test and assembly services, has selected and is currently using the new Turbo AC™ from Teradyne in the production test of next-generation broadband devices. By providing over 150MHz analog bandwidth, Turbo AC is the only instrument that enables source and measurement of the multiple signals required by the emerging SOC devices used in audio, xDSL, HDTV, cable modem, and set top box applications.

"Turbo AC simplified the design of the test loadboard in testing next-generation xDSL, set-top box and infotainment SOC devices. It provides the stringent test coverage for performance capability in frequency bandwidth and SNR range," said CK Tan, UTAC's Group VP Corporate Test and Development. "Because Turbo AC covers a wide range of device markets, this was a natural selection for us to meet our customers' time-to-market requirements."

Digital broadcasting and HDTV has driven set-top box manufacturers to improve the embedded converter performance to 12 and 14 bits up to a 70 MHz bandwidth. Turbo AC's bandwidth addresses not only the new video portions of the set-top box, but also the 16-bit and greater audio requirements. ADSL 2+ has also pushed the limits of existing test instrument performance with 16- to 18-bit devices emerging. Turbo AC enables full characterization for both single tone and multi-tone test strategies for the xDSL markets.

"Turbo AC's low distortion analog source and capture instrument is designed to meet the demands of emerging SOC devices," said George Rose, Business Marketing Manager for the Broadband Markets, Semiconductor Test Division of Teradyne. "Teradyne is pleased to be working with UTAC, a leader in the test of next-generation broadband devices."

About Turbo AC
Turbo AC delivers source and capture of analog signals in one instrument across a 150 MHz bandwidth with -160dBFs/Hz instrument noise density and less than -96dB distortion at 1MHz.

The patented architecture is designed for linearity performance and low noise density to test next generation broadband devices. Turbo AC provides -125dBc THD and up to 120dBA SNR for audio, up to -100dB THD at 500KHz for xDSL, and signal phase alignment of +/- 0.1 degree for WCDMA and G3, 150MHz of source and capture bandwidth for cable modem and set top box applications.

Available for Catalyst,(TM) Tiger,(TM) and FLEX,(TM) Teradyne Turbo AC creates a simplified production test environment for devices in a wide range of measurement frequencies, protocols, and performance. Its low noise density enables measurements with fewer samples and higher repeatability for faster test times. Turbo AC's user-friendly programming environment simplifies test development with standardized routines for new users and full instrument control and graphical debug for power users.
