Teradyne Awarded 2002 Test Solution Supplier of the Year by Magis

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 7, 2002--Magis Networks, Inc. announced today that it has named Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) as its 2002 Test Solution Supplier of the Year. Teradyne is the world's largest supplier of automatic test equipment for the electronics and telecommunications industries. Magis develops chipsets that enable wireless communications of high-quality video, TCP/IP data, and audio throughout the home and office under the Air5T brand name.

With the support of Teradyne's Test Assistance Group (TAG), Magis has gained access to world-class test development software, such as IMAGET and VX. This has enabled Magis to create a virtual test environment to debug their test programs and digital patterns.

"Teradyne's TAG team has worked very closely with Magis' design and test groups since the very beginning of our production process," said Clarence Bruckner, President and CEO, Magis Networks, Inc. "By leveraging Teradyne's extensive test development tools and expertise, Magis has saved significant time in getting our Air5T chipset to market."

"In the highly competitive wireless arena, Teradyne recognizes that our customers' initial concern is time to market. This requires us to supply companies like Magis with uncompromising support," said Roger Pricer, Teradyne's Fabless/Subcon Manager. "Our field teams leverage wireless test IP along with CatalystT test systems to provide total test coverage, from DC to microwave, with industry leading cost of test. And with the deployment of multiple Catalyst systems at all major subcontract test houses, Magis enjoys manufacturing flexibility as they continue their production ramp."

Magis develops chipsets for next-generation wireless networks that enable the simultaneous distribution of high-quality video, audio, and TCP/IP data throughout the home and office. The company's products are based on its Air5T technology, which supports flexible networks, multiple streams of cable and satellite digital video and audio distributed wirelessly while maintaining their original quality. This same network supports TCP/IP data throughput at ten times the performance of 802.11b.

About Magis' Air5T Technology

The architecture of Magis' Air5T technology encompasses IEEE 802.11a, HiperLAN2, and Wireless 1394 standards. Leveraging the advantages of the 5 GHz frequency band and Magis' advanced RF design techniques, this technology enables Magis' chipsets to exceed the performance, coverage, and range of other 5 GHz and 802.11b products. This advanced design also achieves a high level of integration, thereby significantly reducing build costs to manufacturers, and enabling them to quickly bring 5GHz wireless networking products to market.

Applications for Magis chipsets include digital cable set-tops and gateways, cable modems, satellite receivers, PCs, laptops and PDAs, and consumer electronics equipment such as televisions, personal video recorders (PVRs), DVDs, Internet appliances, and gaming consoles.

About MicroWAVE6000

Teradyne's MicroWAVE6000 instrumentation suite provides a complete range of RF/microwave test capabilities required for current and future wireless devices and communications standards. MicroWAVE6000 includes full 6 GHz source, measure and vector network analysis (VNA) capability, complete 12-term error correction, and graphical-user interface (GUI) based test templates for programming ease-of-use plus options, including: microwave modulation, up to 16 RF pins, as well as options for noise figure, phase noise measurements and frequency hopping. Fully integrated within Teradyne's Catalyst and A5 test systems, MicroWAVE6000 is the only RF/microwave instrumentation available that also allows for complete system configuration flexibility for today's high-volume production environment. Catalyst and A5 systems can either be configured as focused RF test solutions, with ample room for further instrument expansion, or as complete wireless SOC test solutions by augmenting MicroWAVE6000 with the full complement of Teradyne's mixed-signal AC, DC, and digital instrumentation. In addition, MicroWAVE6000 instrumentation can be added easily to Catalyst and A5 installed systems.

About Catalyst

Catalyst dominates the SOC market with 1000 systems shipped. Test capabilities include full coverage for DSL, wireless/RF, networking, and power management applications. With more than 4,000 individual users worldwide, Catalyst's IMAGE programming system is the most widely used ATE software environment. Catalyst offers multi-site testing, providing the best test economics, and the most complete array of analog instrumentation for test coverage and production flexibility. When a mobile phone call is placed, or a PC, printer, scanner, pager, or DVD is utilized, Catalyst tested ICs make it happen and with the lowest cost of test.
