NORTH READING, Mass.-December 12, 2007 – Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER), a world leader in high efficiency, low-cost test, announced Wolfson Microelectronics of Edinburgh, UK, purchased multiple Teradyne(R) UltraFLEX(TM) systems for testing their newly designed audio CODEC that includes embedded power management. Wolfson, a leading supplier of digital audio devices, chose the UltraFLEX with TurboAC(TM) and DC75 instrumentation in a competitive selection process that highlighted the audio performance of the TurboAC and the reduced cost of test delivered by the multisite performance of UltraFLEX. The Teradyne tested audio CODEC devices will be used in MP3 players and cell phones.
"Wolfson needed a test solution with proven capability for characterization and production test of our next-generation devices, which combines integrated power management with precision digital audio,” said John Urwin, Wolfson Microelectronics operations director. “The UltraFLEX test solution enables us to certify the world-class audio performance of our new device while achieving extremely competitive throughput and cost of test. Teradyne brings demonstrated performance to our test floor so we can introduce our new devices to market faster.”
"Teradyne is pleased to support Wolfson’s new device introduction.” said Tom Boydston, product manager, Broadband Semiconductor Test, Teradyne. “The integrated analog and power capabilities of UltraFLEX deliver an economic test advantage designed to provide device suppliers like Wolfson with a production strategy of faster test time, faster time-to-market and faster time-to-revenue.”
Teradyne’s FLEX test platform, approaching 1500 test systems shipped, advances test technologies in an architecture designed for high-efficiency, multisite test. FLEX platform systems readily adapt to new test requirements. With a Universal Slot architecture and high-density instrument design, test engineers can dynamically match system configurations to changing production requirements on the test floor.
The TurboAC delivers in a single broadband AC instrument the bandwidth and dynamic range required to test tomorrow’s broadband standards. The DC75 instrument provides pattern-oriented programming with high-accuracy DC VI, differential metering and time measurement for multichannel CODECs, xDSL, automotive power controllers, baseband DSPs, motor drivers and microcontrollers.
