Chooses Teradyne Tiger for High Speed/High Performance
SOC Test
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 2002--Teradyne (NYSE:TER) today announced that Korea-based Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has ordered the Tiger test system for baseband, DSP, and data communication devices. Tiger delivers a flexible, high-throughput test solution for complex digital-intensive SOC devices used in consumer electronics. Samsung, a leading developer of far-reaching digital consumer technology creates next-generation chips that are on the leading edge in today's competitive semiconductor field. "Over the years, Teradyne has provided numerous test solutions and local support for innovative Samsung products. Tiger provides Samsung with the high end digital performance and breadth of mixed signal instruments required for their wide spectrum of complex devices," said Roger Saylor, Teradyne Vice President of Asian Operations. "Samsung completed an intensive on-site evaluation of multiple testers and chose Tiger for the extensive production-proven mixed signal options, high performance digital capability, and low cost to test." Tiger instruments include broadband AC, gigabit clocks, and low jitter digital that cover device test for a wide range of frequencies, bandwidth, and performance. Historically, test engineers had to choose between either performance or bandwidth, because they could not test both without extensive applications effort. With Teradyne setting an analog performance standard with the new broadband AC (BBAC) instrument, Samsung's test engineers no longer need to choose. "The BBAC uses breakthrough DSP technology to solve the performance versus bandwidth dilemma," explained George Rose, Broadband Business Unit manager, Teradyne. "Experience gained working with high performance device makers led us toward a unique digital approach for the BBAC that removed the analog bandwidth limitations plaguing older instruments. We are pleased that after evaluating multiple test vendors, Samsung selected Tiger for this broadband capability, combined with proven SerDes test experience and Teradyne's local support." About Tiger Tiger is the first over 1 Gbps SOC test system. Extending the Catalyst Family, Tiger offers the flexibility and scalability required by leading fabless subcontractors and integrated device manufacturers by providing economical at-speed testing for a variety of leading edge devices. Tiger offers up to 1024 digital pins and data rates to 3.2Gbps while combining unequaled analog test capability, timing flexibility, and programmable speed enabling all in one versatile platform.
