Teradyne's
Tiger Chosen by ATI Technologies for Graphics and Chipset
Engineering and Production Test; Improved Test Performance
Drives Superior Economics and Time to Market
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 10, 2003--Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE:TER) announced today that ATI Technologies, Inc. (TSX: ATY, NASDAQ: ATYT), a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative 3D graphics and digital media silicon solutions, has selected Teradyne's Tiger test system as the characterization and production solution for their full range of graphics devices. Fabless device designers, like ATI, select the Tiger for the system's unique 3rd Generation SOC Architecture, Real I/O(TM) digital pattern generation and TwinMode(TM) pin electronics that combined deliver high throughput, economical at-speed test capability and rapid time-to-market for emerging devices. New device types including multiple high-speed interface standards such as AGP8x, 1Gbps DDR, HyperTransport(TM) and other LVDS and SerDes technologies are tested by Tiger. "As a leader in the graphics market, we are driven to quickly develop test solutions for high speed device technologies like TMDS, while achieving high volume and low cost in production," said Jim Seto, Vice President of ASIC Operations, ATI Technologies, Inc. "With graphics device interface data rates at 1.6Gbps, we need testers with the ability to minimize test time and time to market." "The Tiger Test System is not only a cost-effective production test solution for ATI, but its comprehensive set of software development tools and engineering instruments provide a valuable design verification and characterization solution for ATI," Seto concluded. "Testing complexity is escalating rapidly as LVDS buses, DDR I/O and SerDes interfaces are rapidly being integrated onto high-performance digital parts," said Glenn Farris, marketing manager, Teradyne. "LVDS and TMDS buses, for example, are moving onto Integrated Graphics devices and presenting unique testing challenges. Teradyne's Tiger test system provides a compelling advantage in this very competitive market. The Tiger's TwinMode Pin Electronics, Dual Asynchronous Pattern Generators and 3rd Generation SOC Architecture combine to enable high throughput data eye measurements and flexible tester configurations without loss of pin count. ATI has developed a reputation of being a market leader in 3D graphics and we are pleased that they have chosen the Tiger to strengthen their position in the broader semiconductor market." About Tiger The Catalyst Tiger is the first ATE Platform to combine next generation LVDS and SerDes production test capability in a true SOC system. Extending the Catalyst Family, Tiger shares the same high throughput zero-time DSP architecture, IMAGE(TM) software and state-of-the-art analog instruments and extends the Catalyst Family to 1024 digital pins. Powered by breakthrough Silicon Germanium (SiGe) technology, Tiger's TwinMode Pin Electronics set a new digital performance standard with full I/O data rates to 1.6 Gbps and configurability for single ended or differential testing, while retaining the timing flexibility at top speed demanded by chipset, graphics and network processing applications. The flexibility of Tiger allows customers to configure their system to provide complete test coverage while achieving maximum production throughput for a broad range of devices. About ATI Technologies ATI Technologies Inc. is a world leader in the design and manufacture of innovative 3D graphics and digital media silicon solutions.
