Energy Micro is 100th Teradyne FLEX Platform Customer

NORTH READING, Mass. – July 9, 2009 – Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE:TER) announced that Energy Micro, a fabless company in Norway that intends to make the world’s most energy-friendly microcontrollers, is the 100th FLEX™ test platform customer. Teradyne’s FLEX platform, which is approaching 2000 units shipped, was introduced in 2002. The platform offers multiple systems that allow customers to optimize for performance, configuration capacity and capital cost. It spans test requirements from conventional DFT and structural test to standard analog and mixed-signal to the latest high-integration System-On-a-Chip (SOC) and System-In-Package (SIP) for consumer, automotive, mass storage, wireless and data communications applications.

Energy Micro purchased a microFLEX™ test system with BBAC and digital instrumentation to test ultra low power microcontrollers for battery-operated industrial and consumer appliances. The FLEX platform was chosen because of its availability at subcons, as well as its broad suite of instrumentation, which offers performance headroom for future devices.

“We are pleased to share this milestone with Teradyne,” said Geir Førre, CEO of Energy Micro. “We selected the microFLEX system because of its broad suite of instrumentation and highly efficient multisite test architecture. As a new player in the market, we needed the high parallelism and fast test times that the microFLEX offers to economically test our microcontrollers.”

“Energy Micro is a new and innovative player in the microcontroller market and its selection of the microFLEX demonstrates the expansive reach the FLEX test platform has in the market,“ said Regan Mills, manager of Teradyne’s Consumer and Wireless business unit. “We are confident that our product roadmap will allow the FLEX family to continue to offer the best economics, for both current and new customers, through high-efficiency, multisite test for the next generation of devices.”
