Teradyne’s sustainability journey began three decades ago when our first environmental health and safety (EHS) program was established. Today, Teradyne is continuously expanding our environmental focus and commitment through various initiatives. Sustainability is key to our collective future and has become increasingly important commercially as our customers work to deliver on their own sustainability targets.
For our most recent environmental milestone, Teradyne has signed an aggregated virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) with BayWa r.e. Americas through Sustainability Roundtable, Inc.’s Net Zero Consortium for Buyers (NZCB).
A VPPA is an agreement that provides Renewable Energy Credits or Certificates (RECs) from a specific renewable energy project located offsite from the company. The renewable energy generated is fed into the local power grid in Illinois. VPPAs have proven to be powerful tools for turning ambitious renewable energy targets into reality.
This VPPA Teradyne signed along with Akamai Technologies and Wayfair covers the renewable energy credits produced by the 135 MWac Prairie Solar project in Champaign County, Illinois. It is being developed by the BayWa r.e. Americas group and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. It’s a significant environmental milestone that Teradyne is proud to be a part of in our sustainability journey.
This solar project is set to make a significant impact to reduce carbon emissions in the area, which currently relies heavily on fossil fuels.
Teradyne is purchasing renewable energy generated by a 20 MW portion of Prairie Solar, as part of our emissions reduction commitment. Once the initiative is up and running, Teradyne’s portion of the project is expected to deliver renewable energy equivalent to Teradyne’s entire U.S. electric load.
“Teradyne remains committed to our sustainability initiatives. The NZCB provides one of the many ways Teradyne is working to reduce our environmental impact, to the benefit of our customers, our employees, and the communities where we operate,” said Debra Pulpi, Corporate EHS Manager at Teradyne.
Teradyne is excited for this environmental milestone and looking forward to Prairie Solar’s expected completion in 2025.
