Quality, complexity, and continued innovation demand flexible semiconductor test strategies
In 2025, the automated test equipment (ATE) industry will be deeply influenced by semiconductor evolution. As chip sizes shrink and devices become more complex, the demand for advanced, flexible, and AI-driven testing solutions will increase.
There is much on the horizon, as we approach the limits of Moore’s Law and embrace packaging innovations that require specialized testing interfaces and new standards. Edge AI drives these demands even further, shifting away from centralized data centers and introducing challenges of latency, bandwidth, and privacy. ATE must handle real-time, diverse, and distributed AI workloads, applying system level test (SLT) to evaluate devices under real-world conditions. Advanced data analytics also play a critical role, delivering valuable insights for continuous yield improvement.
In all cases, the focus must remain on enhancing precision and reducing the cost of test while maintaining high-quality yields. Collaboration, flexible test strategies, and adherence to emerging standards will help ATE providers stay competitive, lead the way, and deliver higher quality across the semiconductor lifecycle.
Companies must adapt to these challenges—whether through AI integration, SLT, or the use of data analytics—to thrive in the rapidly shifting landscape of semiconductor development.

Jeorge has held various technical, management and executive positions at Teradyne, Lam Research, LitePoint, TranSwitch, and Rockwell Semiconductors. He is a voting member of the IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi standards committee and serves as the secretary of the IEEE 802.11ay task group. Jeorge is currently the co-chair of the IEEE Heterogeneous Integration Roadmap (HIR) Test Working Group, and a visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz and the University of Phoenix.
